#ad PREVIEW : : LVL3 is a 2 - 4 player abstract game where you compete to build up the levels and score the most points! To set up simply layout the game board and score board and stack the 60 game tiles in 5 face down piles. Each player is then assigned a colour from the 4 available. The aim of the game is to place tiles with at least one of the coloured symbols on the tile, matching an adjacent coloured symbol already on the board. Each player will take it in turns to draw and place a tile by first rolling the 6 sided dice. The 5 piles will be designated a number between 1 - 5 and if you roll a 6, this means you can pick from whichever pile you choose. Sounds easy enough, but here's the kicker... whoever’s colour is played adjacent, they are the ones who score the points, not the person who played the tile! More than one colour can score at the same time, so you may find the lesser of two evils is to give some points to another player in order to get some points for yourself! You get 1 point for every 1 of your coloured symbols that lines up with another of the same colour. Plus if the symbols are the same shape as well as colours, then you get 2 points! You can layer tiles on top of one another but you cannot lay a tile over any gaps below. When you lay a tile on the 2nd level, the points are doubled, on level 3 or above, the points are tripled! There are also joker symbols in grey, these can be used to complete any combination you choose. There are 2 ways to win the game, be the first to the finish line on the scoreboard, or survive 3 rounds in winning mode! Each player will have 2 tiles in the game with a special symbol in their colour. When these tiles are played to the board that player enters 'winning mode' and on their subsequent turns they will take a token to track surviving a round. If that player collects 3 tokens without having this symbol covered up, then they win instantly so other players will want to work together to cover these symbols! Even through our dry spell of gaming we still managed to go through the entire pad of Skull King! We've had so much fun with this one lately, one of our friends is quite honestly obsessed with it. Rather than ask if we wanna play games at the weekend he just asks if we wanna play Skull King 😂 Not sure what we're going to do now we're out of score pad sheets as I didn't think to photocopy one before we ran out. Help @grandpa.becks.games? 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 If you are a fan of trick tacking games this might be the best one out there... But feel free to tell me otherwise!

#ad LANDER PREVIEW : : NOW LIVE ON KICKSTARTER : : In Lander you are playing as one of four possible corporations who together, have funded a space mission to colonise a new planet. Before the arrival of the 5,000 strong colony, a small team of personnel are sent to prepare the planet for habitation. However, upon entering the atmosphere a huge electrical storm resulted in a crash landing, killing most of the crew. While you may have worked together to launch this mission, competition to be the market leader is fierce and the corporation who contributes the most to colony development by the time the colony arrives in 6 years time, will be victorious. Lander is a resource management game where you must complete as many missions as possible, as the corporation with the most mission stars wins the game. You will start the game with just two crew members, a few claimed sectors of the planet and a handful of activity cards and resources. At the start of each year you will gain resources equal to sectors you control and their productivity levels. Over the years you will expand your control over more sectors and upgrade their productivity. With more resources you are able to acquire more crew as some of the stasis pods survived the crash. Crew members classes and traits, along with resources and claimed sectors will all be vital components to complete private and public missions, as well as achieving bonus stars through special Accolades. As competition is fierce you will need to be ruthless, using action cards and leadership abilities to sabotage your rivals, even going so far as possibly killing their crew members! One of the unique aspects of Lander is it’s multiple Game Styles. This means you can alter the gameplay to suit your preference based on experience and the amount of time you have to play the game. The set-up and game play varies slightly with each mode but there are really helpful guides for all of these game styles. Our game room gets more use as a guest room these days 😔 life has gotten pretty busy lately and I really miss these guys. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel though and can't wait to have more time for all the games! Anyone else go through spells of very little gaming? What gets in your way? #ad PREVIEW : : Herrlof is a 2-person trick taking game from @jollydutch and plays in 30 minutes. As Vikings you battle it out to be the first to score 50 points by winning tricks and correctly predicting how many tricks you will win! If you are unfamiliar with trick taking games, the general gist is that each player plays one card, and the highest card wins, the winner then takes those cards to record how many tricks they have won. All cards played in a trick must follow suit, if you are able to do so. The trump is a suit that will win over any other suit, even if the number is lower. The deck consists of 4 suits, numbered 1 to 9 plus 6 special cards. Each player is dealt 15 cards and from the remaining deck, one is turned over to set the trump for the round. After viewing their hands, players make a prediction for many tricks they could win. Once all tricks have been played, this is where your predictions come in! For every trick you win you gain one point, for a correct prediction of 3, 4 or 5 tricks you win a further 5 bonus points and for all other correct predictions you win a further 10 bonus points! Herrlof also adds some special cards and actions to add something new to a well loved classic: The N card is lower than all other cards, when played the loser of this trick starts the next trick. However if 2 N’s are played, the first wins. This is especially important if you are trying to lose a trick intentionally to make sure you get your prediction dead on! The Triangle card destroys the current trick, this can be a vital tactic to getting those predictions right or sabotaging the other player! If 2 Triangles are played, a new trump is revealed. Outside of these special cards there are also 4 special actions that can be taken if you win a trick using a certain number card: 🔺 Win with a 1 - Steal a trick from the other player 🔺 Win with a 3 - Take a card from the top of the deck 🔺 Win with a 6 - Steal a card from your opponent 🔺 Win with a 9 - Opponent starts the next trick Herrlof is now live on Kickstarter, you can find the link in my profile to see more! Christmas came early from @grandpa.becks.games! Skull King has already become a favourite in our family of card players so we're looking forward to exploring the rest of this loot over Christmas! It's been a crazy busy few months for me so I've been a little MIA and barely gotten to play anything, but work is done and Christmas is almost upon us and I for one cannot freaking wait! What to buy the Terraforming Mars fan who has every expansion already? Component Upgrades! 👨‍🚀🚀👩‍🚀🚀 These tiles and markers are from @bgexpansions who have an amazing range of upgrades for all kinds of games. The water and forest tiles are especially nice as they use two colours of plastic to add more depth, the city tiles have a metallic shimmer to them and all the special brown tiles are unique to match those in the game! 👨‍🚀🚀👩‍🚀🚀 As a bonus you also get replacement markers for the three tracks as well as adorable little astronaut player score markers! Oh and a nifty new first player marker! 👨‍🚀🚀👩‍🚀🚀 Terraforming Mars is one of those games that I feel has been let down by it's components (I'm looking at you single layer player boards) so these upgrades definitely make me more inclined to get it to the table again. If a murder mystery in a box sounds like you're kinda thing be sure to check out my review for Post Mortem LA: Death in La La Land from @mysteriouspackageco! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As with most noire detective stories, this one starts with a dead body and some pretty suspicious circumstances! The investigation centres around a fairground in Los Angeles and you are transported back in time to the 1940’s. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You will question suspects, follow leads and decipher puzzles to solve the unraveling mystery. Nothing is quite as it seems in La-La-Land… 🤡🤡🤡
